Chapter 6-2 : Existence Recognition / Stroke
2013 – Present
After returning to photography, I gradually integrated my studies of psychology into my work, leading to the concept that now defines my portraiture:
Existence Recognition / Stroke.
This approach emerged through projects such as Existence and Message and Edge of Life, and eventually evolved into a form of portraiture dedicated to portraying a person’s existence itself.
Many of the people I have photographed have been living with terminal illness, facing the final stages of life, or standing at significant crossroads in their journeys.
These portraits are not only for the people within the frame.
They are also for the people who love them.
At their best, they create a space where both the subject and the viewer can reconnect with something deep within themselves.
At times, they may even become part of the process of grief care.
Over the years, I have come to believe that a portrait is more than an image.
It is an act of recognizing that someone exists.
The answer you seek lies within that one frame.
I know that you are here.
